The first station on the Norwegian side of the border is Björnfjell, where the descent to Narvik begins. This part of the line is studded with snow sheds. A Dm3 with a loaded train has just emerged from one and is about to dive into a tunnel on 9916. The chalets which dot the hills are summer homes, many of which seemed to be receiving their first visit of the year judging by the amount of spring cleaning going on.
